DreamWedding global supply hub goes live after raising US$7.5m

A digital platform for wedding supplies and services based in Dublin called DreamWedding has gone live. received investment in excess of US$7.5m from Switzerland-based Digital Capital AG last year.

The company enables suppliers of resources for upcoming weddings to showcase their products and services online, via an iOS app or via a free-to-play social media game.

The internet and social media are heavily influencing wedding planning decisions. The average Irish wedding cost €23,000.

“There’s been a major change in the way that women interact with technology, gaming and social media,” explained Digital Capital’s director of marketing Jonathan Bunney.

“Dreamwedding enables wedding vendors to embrace that shift and engage with potential customers in an entirely new way.”

The gamification of wedding planning
As well as an online director of wedding suppliers the company has created a DreamWedding planner app.

The company’s Dream Wedding social media game offers customers the chance to “play and earn” discounts for the bride-to-be.

“This is a completely unique proposition for both brides and suppliers and we’re excited to have signed up many of Ireland’s top wedding businesses prior to launch,” DreamWedding CEO Chris Klug said.

After its Irish launch the company intends to launch in the US, beginning with California and expanding across the rest of the continent over the course of 2014.

Stewart Kosoy, a pioneer of the game industry with decades of experience making and financing games, has passed away, according to a Facebook memorial page dedicated to him.

Kosoy held many positions in the game business and touched a lot of people. His page on Wikipedia credits him with work on 26 games from 1999 to 2009. He was 65.

Former EA vice president Jonathan Bunney has joined Digital Capital as marketing boss

Bunney spent over 12 years at EA working across the publisher’s product and marketing divisions.

He had worked on a number of the firm’s key brands including FIFA, Battlefield and Harry Potter.

In the new role, Bunney will oversee Digital Capital’s wide portfolio of games and tech investments.
